Test my internet speed
Test your internet connection speed in real-world conditions. The test measures download and upload speed by transferring real files, so you get results that reflect everyday usage.
Optimal server: unknown
Download speed: 0 Mbit/s
Upload speed: 0 Mbit/s
Location: unknown
You can also run a custom test by selecting a server location and the number of parallel connections.
Why internetspeed.online exists
Choosing an internet provider, mobile operator, or VPN often depends on real performance, not on advertised numbers.
This project collects speed test results across different networks and VPN providers, analyzes them, and shares transparent results with users.
Visit the Fastest VPNs page to see the top services ranked by download and upload speed, including both paid and free VPNs.
How this speed test works
You can test your internet speed in two ways:
- Quick test: automatically selects the closest server and runs the test using 4 parallel connections.
- Custom test: lets you manually choose the server location and the number of connections.
Results are shown as average speed in Mbps (Mbit/s), calculated as transferred data divided by test duration.
Each test runs for 20 seconds and uses your available bandwidth without artificial limits.
Real-world internet speed testing
This test simulates real-life usage by downloading and uploading data from remote servers, similar to how media files are transferred in practice.
Many speed tests use servers located inside your ISP network, which can produce unrealistically high results.
In real usage, data is usually transferred from large cloud providers, whose data centers are located in major regional hubs rather than every city.
Test your VPN speed
To test your VPN performance, simply connect to your VPN and run the speed test on this page. The results will reflect your real connection speed through the VPN.
Share the link internetspeed.online with friends or colleagues, or post it on social media and messengers. More tests mean more accurate and useful data for everyone.
Maximum detectable speed
All test servers are connected with up to 2 Gbit/s bandwidth.
Maximum detected speed depends largely on the distance between you and the test server.
Tests show that closer servers can deliver speeds above 1 Gbit/s, while distant servers often result in significantly lower values.
What affects your internet speed?
- Number of parallel connections
- VPN usage
- Network congestion at different times of day
- ISP traffic prioritization or throttling
- Wi-Fi or mobile signal quality
