Compare VPNs

Surfshark is worth considering for many devices: paid VPN access has no fixed numerical limit on simultaneous connections. Starter is enough for the VPN itself. You do not need a higher bundle simply to connect another personal device.

Surfshark One adds antivirus and data-breach alerts; One+ adds Incogni, which sends personal-data removal requests to data brokers. Paying more makes sense if you need those services. Additional products alone do not make a higher bundle preferable when you are only looking for a VPN.

There is no permanent free plan. The seven-day trial requires payment details and allows three simultaneous devices; it becomes paid unless cancelled. Check renewal separately on long offers: the first term can include bonus months, while later billing can be annual at a different price.

Who runs the VPN?

Surfshark B.V. (registered in Netherlands) is the company named as providing the VPN service. Direct consumer VPN contracting entity; separate bundled-service operators not assigned.

Which laws apply?

The terms specify British Virgin Islands law and courts. Mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence still apply.

Audits & findings

Each audit covers particular systems and a particular point in time. A provider announcement is distinct from a publicly available audit report.

Published materials cover both no-logs claims and security testing. The scope and remaining issues differ between reports.

No-logs review

Deloitte Lietuva UAB · 2025

What was checked: No-logs server configuration and supporting operations, examined in May–June 2025.

Findings: The reasonable-assurance report supported compliance with the described no-logs setup.

Limitations: The audited setup allows temporary user IDs and connection timestamps, deleted within 15 minutes after disconnection.

What was checked: Selected VPN infrastructure, tested in December 2025.

Findings: The report found a medium-severity TLS configuration issue and recommended improving HTTP redirects.

Fixes: The public material does not confirm whether the reported issue was subsequently fixed.

Limitations: These findings describe the tested versions at that time, not the current state of every app or server.

Dausos protocol security

What was checked: The Dausos VPN protocol and related components, tested in February–March 2026.

Findings: Ten findings were reported. The eight within the protocol scope were medium severity or lower; the two most severe concerned external hosting infrastructure.

Fixes: The summary says most findings were addressed and submitted for verification; it does not establish that every fix was verified.

Censorship resistance

Relevant mainly where VPN services are blocked

If you are in the US, a European country, or elsewhere and VPN services are not blocked on your network, these results need not rule this VPN out of your purchase decision. A failed test under blocking in Russia does not, by itself, mean the VPN is poor quality or will not work where you live. Consider its speed, features and price for your needs.

In our tests in Russia, we could not establish a working VPN connection that allowed data transfer under VPN blocking.

A working connection today may be blocked tomorrow

Blocking changes over time and can differ between networks. A successful test shows that a connection worked in the tested conditions; it does not guarantee that it will work elsewhere or keep working.

Detecting VPN traffic

Filtering equipment can identify patterns in a VPN connection, including how a protocol starts a session. It can then prevent the connection or interrupt data transfer. Traffic obfuscation can make these patterns harder to recognise, but it does not prevent every kind of blocking.

Blocking server IP addresses

A censor can also block known VPN server addresses or entire IP ranges. If all traffic to an address is blocked on your network, disguising the VPN protocol alone will not make that server reachable.

What about your own VPN server?

A privately used server may be less exposed than a public VPN server, and traffic obfuscation may help it avoid detection. But its IP address is still visible to your internet provider and can be blocked. Running your own server gives you more control, not guaranteed access, and requires setup and maintenance.
